About the Item

Kabukie is an original modern artwork realized by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798 – 1861) in the half of the 19th Century. Original woodcut from the series "Genji kumo ukiyoe awase" (The transient world compared to the cloudy chapters of the Genji novel), chapter Kobai. Keyamura Rokusuke standing visibly in a rage, the delicate O-Sono sitting behind him holding a flowering plum tree branch (Kobai), scene in the play Hikosan Gongen Chikai no Sukedachi. Signed in plate. Publisher: Iseya Ichibei. Censorship: Murata. Good impression with blindstamping (nose bone), slightly faded, restored wormholes at right margin, lower margin slightly creased and soiled. Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798 – 1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school.
