Francoise Gilot (1921 - ): A French born artist and scholar who studied at the Academie Julian, as well as degrees in Philosophy from Sorbonne and English from Cambridge. In 1946 Gilot began under the tutelage of Picasso, and would study with him until 1953. The two also had a romantic relationship leading to two children, Claude and Paloma. In addition to being an accomplished painter, Gilot was also a best selling author, including Life with Picasso which sold over 1 million copies. Picasso was not the only famous lover of Gilot however, as she was later married to Jonas Salk. After her relationship with Picasso, Gilot went onto work with Matisse, thus it is no surprise to see her canvases decorated with lively color.
