This is an ink and carbon monotype on paper depicting, as the title states, a "Crying Klansman." Is this an actual description of the figure or a sardonic comment by the artist who is African American? The stark contrast of black and white is alleviated by the texture shown in this monotype work. The piece is framed and signed on the back.
George Simmons is an Upstate New York artist who focuses on printmaking, painting and fine art photography. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin with an MFA in studio art, Simmons exhibits regionally and has been the recipient of photography awards.
