About the Item

Gibrán Turón's work develops from this polysemantic playful process, an anthropology of the close that makes the artist an enunciator of the event, a hermeneutic of the arteries of the cities. In any of his proposals, Turón is an aesthetic surveyor, dedicated to metaphorically measuring the urban landscape; allegorical ethnologist; sidewalk botanist: flâneur; alchemical reader who seeks to discover that significant universe that apparently is not given at first sight but with the contemplation of laziness and disinterested investigations of it. His distinctive expressiveness arises from the sensitivity he possesses to apprehend otherness: the language of the city, of cities, because they are many and different. His creations investigate the decontextualized everyday, the otherness, the absurd, the error, the border, the margins between the normal and the strange, the street: a free source of references, stories and characters that materialize in the reconstruction through thought, memory, imagination and the dream space of the artist. Beyond all compromised discourse, the conscious walk of Gibrán Turón becomes an ontological, anachronistic and sometimes premonitory gesture. His works are thus a symbolic shelter, in the Greek sense of the term 'symbol' which refers to the tablets of memories, tessera hospitalis, those stone fractions that the host broke in half together with his guest to, after time , recognize. They point to the multiplicity of meanings, affirmation and approach to the different. With humor and honest laughter, Turón's linguistic games speak of the immediate reality of the street, of the fleeting and ephemeral, sustained by uselessness and autonomy; They are a poetic story, aesthetic awareness of the metropolis. Finally, his work develops from the reaffirmation of active leisure understood as the intimate event, typical for autopoiesis: "laziness is health."
