Hand-signed, numbered and dated by the artist on the lower margin.
Giovanni De Simone (28 October 1930 - 26 March 1991) was an Italian ceramist. Nella sua città natale fondò il proprio laboratorio a Palermo: erano gli anni cinquanta e qui si dedica alla produzione di ceramiche d'uso e piastrelle decorative da rivestimento e d'arredo di tipo tradizionale dipinte a mano. La sua evoluzione come artista lo porta a realizzare in un secondo momento lavori ispirati al primitivismo ma caratterizzati da una vena burlesca e festosa con decori a smalti dai colori sgargianti, spesso dati a spessore, come oggetti d'uso per arredamento e sculture in maiolica in stile tradizionale e moderno. L'originale stile di Giovanni De Simone è stato definito una sintesi tra la grande lezione formale di maestri quali Picasso, Matisse, Leger e Klee ed elementi desunti dal folklore e dalle tradizioni di Sicilia.
