Published and printed by L'Académie française, Paris, under the direction of Joseph Foret, éditeur, Paris; printed by Mourlot Frères, Paris, June 20, 1956. Excerpted from the album (translated from French), Under the direction of Joseph Foret, Publisher of Art in Paris, this album, printed by Dominique Viglino and of which the two original lithographs of Jean Cocteau, forming the cover were printed on the presses of Mourlot Frères, was completed on June 20, 1956. The print run was limited to 300 examples, with the colophons numbered from 1 to 300. Reproduction rights of illustrations, S. P. A. D. E. M., Paris.
JEAN COCTEAU (1889–1963) was a French poet, playwright, novelist, designer, film director, visual artist and critic. He was one of the foremost artists of the surrealist, avant-garde, and Dadaist movements and an influential figure in early 20th century art. The National Observer suggested that, "of the artistic generation whose daring gave birth to Twentieth Century Art, Cocteau came closest to being a Renaissance man."
