About the Item
Fine 18th century engraving by French artist Jean-Jacques Lagrenée. Presented with hand cut mount and gilt filet in fine wood and gilt 'ribbon and reed' frame.
Very charming rendition of a group of cherubs around a goat offering the bounty of the harvest, other cherubs in the background gathering in the corn.
Jean-Jacques Lagrenée (18 September 1739 in Paris – 13 February 1821 in Paris), known as the younger, was a French history painter and engraver. With his elder brother Louis-Jean-François Lagrenée, he stayed in Russia (1760–62) then at the Académie de Rome (1763–68). The inspiration for this work may be the earlier Le Quatre Saisions from 1735 by Charles Joseph Natoire.
