Jean Pichore workshop, 1500-1541 Crucifixion Metal cut engraving printed on vellum with vintage hand coloring c. 1500-1541 Miniature (image) size: 4 3/4 x 3 1/8" Including decorated metal cut border: 8 1/2 x 5 7/8" Published and Printed by Germain and Gilles Hardouin, Paris From: Book of Hours Designed by the Jean Pichore workshop Octavo format Note: verso has three metal cut vignettes of the Stations of the Cross. An excellent example of the Hardouin workshop production with very fine delicate coloring of the image to closely resemble an illuminated manuscript of the late 15th century. The Hardouin brothers were the leading publisher/printers in Paris and were responsible for the creation of the majority of French printed Book of Hours. Their workshop was located on the Isle de la Cite near Notre Dame Cathedral. Condition: Very good with slight waviness of vellum. The colors very fresh.
