About the Item
In "Emerald Woman" by Chinese artist Jiang Tie-Feng, a sensuous, jade-green female figure is depicted astride a vividly rendered horse, fusing human form with the spiritual energy of motion and myth. The woman's body flows with lyrical curves, her posture both relaxed and commanding, suggesting a powerful harmony between herself and the steed beneath her. Her long, black hair streams behind her like a banner, threaded with golden eyes and floral ornaments, enhancing her dreamlike, goddess-like aura. The horse—vividly colored in red and surrounded by other fantastical steeds in pinks, purples, and oranges—seems not of this world, embodying vitality, freedom, and elemental power. Together, horse and rider move through an abstracted space filled with swirling lines, luminous gold circles, and symbolic details, blurring the boundaries between motion and stillness, the real and the imagined.
Jiang's hallmark style—marked by bold, saturated color, intricate linework, and spiritual symbolism—shines in this composition. The emerald woman may be interpreted as a muse, a guardian, or a timeless embodiment of feminine strength and serenity. Her connection to the horse evokes themes of unity between humanity and nature, while the overall atmosphere draws on Jiang's deep engagement with Chinese folklore, Buddhist iconography, and contemporary surrealism.

Jiang Tie Feng
Tiefeng Jiang, often simply signed as “JIANG,” is a Chinese contemporary artist best known for his richly colored and intricately detailed figurative prints that fuse traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern techniques. Born in 1938 in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, Jiang was trained at the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. His early career was shaped by China’s Cultural Revolution, during which he was commissioned to create art aligned with national propaganda. However, his personal style eventually emerged as distinctly lyrical and symbolic, combining Chinese mythological motifs, Tang Dynasty influences, and a deeply emotional palette. In the 1980s, Jiang emigrated to the United States, where he gained international recognition, particularly for his large-scale serigraphs and lithographs. Jiang’s large prints are celebrated for their opulence and complexity. He often depicts idealized female figures clothed in flowing robes and adorned with ornamental headdresses, surrounded by flora, birds, and other symbols of prosperity and mystery. Works such as Emerald Woman or Spring Blossoms exemplify his use of deep jewel tones—emerald greens, sapphires, and rich reds—layered meticulously to create a glowing, almost tapestry-like effect. His prints are produced in limited editions, often signed and numbered, using high-quality serigraph techniques that allow for subtle gradations of color and texture. These large works function almost like modern-day scrolls, commanding attention in any space and revealing Jiang’s unique ability to blend cultural history with contemporary appeal. Today, Jiang’s large prints are widely collected, particularly in the U.S. and Asia, and remain a staple in fine art galleries and private collections. While the broader Chinese art market has seen fluctuations in recent years, the demand for Jiang’s work—especially his major prints in perfect condition—has remained steady. Their timeless beauty and fusion of East-West aesthetics continue to resonate with collectors who value both decorative richness and symbolic depth.
