This poster was part of the Committee on Public Information (CPI) 's broader propaganda campaign to rally American support for the war effort. It shows a pair of boots with red stains, showing blood dripping onto the ground. The German Adler is on the top of each boot and is shown wearing spurs.
The "Keep These Off the USA" poster was created during World War I as part of a broader American propaganda campaign to rally support for the war effort and demonize the enemy, particularly Germany. Propaganda posters were critical tools during WWI, used to influence public opinion, fuel nationalism, and encourage enlistment or participation in war efforts, such as buying liberty bonds.
This poster illustrates metaphorical threats posed by German weapons and soldiers, which are also symbols of the Central Powers. It warns that these dangers would reach American soil if citizens didn’t act (by enlisting, conserving resources, or buying war bonds). Often, designs show dramatic or exaggerated imagery, such as malevolent soldiers or weapons casting long shadows over vulnerable American landscapes.
This is an original vintage poster, not a reproduction!
