Die Gefilde der Seligen ("The Fields of the Blessed") is an original artwork realized by Josef von Divéky in 1917. The artwork is part of a portfolio that includes five graphic works realized by different artists and published in 1917. The monogram with the name of the artist "Divéky Josef" appears on the lower right margin. Good conditions except for some foxing on the lower margin and on the upper margin. The artwork represents a natural landscape with a bridge on the lower side; there are four naked couples of lovers on veils. On the upper side, there is a flying cupid holding a bow. The bodies of the figures are muscular and tapered. Josef von Divéky (Farmos, 1887 – Sopron, 1951) was an Ungarian Graphic designer. Between 1905 and 1907, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Wien with Alois Delus; between 1907 and 1910, he attended the School of Arts and Crafts of Wien. He worked as a graphic designer in Wien, Zurich, Bruxelles and Budapest. From 1919, he lived in Switzerland; in 1941, he became professor at the School of Arts and Crafts of Budapest. Diveky worked as a designer for the Wiener Werkstätte, he collaborated with various magazines and he worked as book illustrator. Among his most famous works, there are the illustrations for the edition “Heinrich Heine – The Doctor Faust”. This artwork is shipped from Italy. In 1913 he began to record. He returned to Italy in 1935 to visit his maternal relatives from Trieste and remained there because of the racial persecutions to which the Jews in Silesia were subject, settling in Milan. In this period he recorded about 500 exlibris. On 9 October 1940 he was arrested and interned as a foreigner in the camp of Civitella del Tronto and then of Ferramonti, (Cosenza) from November 1941 and will be accused by the Nazis of having painted degenerate art...
