Juan Sebastián Barberá Durón Plastic artist Cd. de México 1964 Son of the great musical artist Luisa Durón, Mexican harpsichordist, daughter of pianists Jesús Durón Ruiz and Julia Crespo considered a pioneer of the movement and musical flourishing of the Renaissance and Baroque periods and the initiator of the harpsichord school in Mexico .he grew up in an almost Renaissance environment, among artists and under the main protection of the baroque music of Bach and Hotteterre, Couperin and Scarlatti , among others. Since a very young age, he had a great talent for drawing, painting and sculpture and at the age of ten he won the National School contest of art. From there on, he studied painting and engraving with significant teachers, and was dedicated in a very clear way to the plastic arts from the age of 17 years, after a mystical trip to India. He continued his studies at the academy of San Carlos and, in a parallel way, studied industrial Design. As with all good young painters, at the beginning it is difficult to get good shows in galleries and museums, but soon he attracted his first sponsors: Mauricio Achar and Luis Méndez Jiménez, who arranged a solo exhibition at the Bookstore Gandhi, the meeting point of Mexican and international intellectuals such as Fernando Savater, Jorge Luis Borges, Octavio Paz, and artists, among them, Arnaldo Cohen, Vicente Rojo, Jan Hendrix, José Luis Cuevas, etc.
Since 1990 he has traveled to Europe with projects and exhibitions that permitted him to live for a few years in Vienna, Madrid, Barcelona and Paris. He was inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Goyam Jose Clemente Orozco, and Pablo Picasso. From these experiences he went on to produce around 5,000 drawings, engravings, acrylics, oils, sculptures and art objects. He has had over 40 solo shows in art centers, museums and galleries worldwide, in Mexico, Spain, France, Israel, United States and India. He exhibited in a traveling show throughout Latin America in the collective “Latin America Painters", organized by UNESCO and the Fund of Economic Culture in 1997-1998. At present his work is found in different public and private collections and he is known for having published graphics by the renowned Polígrafa Grafica, in Barcelona in 1994. They have published the foremost artists including Joan Miró, Eduardo Chillida, Roberto Matta, Wifredo Lam, Antoni Tapies, Rufino Tamayo, Francisco Toledo. Josep Guinovart, Gerardo Rueda, Antonio Saura, Joan Hernández Pijuan, Albert Ràfols Casamada, Luis Feito, Eusebio Sempere, Lucio Muñoz, Josep Maria Riera i Aragó, Juan Uslé, Rafael Canogar, Víctor Mira, Jaume Plensa, Perejaume, Cristina Iglesias, Jordi Alcaraz, Luis Gordillo, etc. Cuban artists like Julio Larraz, Kcho, José Bedia and Enrique Martínez Celaya and Mexican artists like Dr Lakra and Carlos Amorales. Others include, “The life and its drawings”, 1995, “Periolibros” in 1997 “Object Almost” 1999, as well as mural projects in public spaces such as the Bookstore Gandhi; , in Passage Altavista, in Lucent Technologies, in Sports City, or in Nelson Steep Slopes, in Mexico City, as well as a monumental sculpture of the Conalep in the Edomex. Juan Sebastián is a painter recognized chiefly within Latin America and Europe.
Juan Sebastián is named after Johann Sebastian Bach. The son of the great harpsichordist Luisa Durón, he grew up in an almost Renaissance environment, among artists and under the main shelter of the baroque music of Bach himself and of Hotteterre, Couperin and Scarlatti, among others. From a very young age he showed great talent for drawing, painting and sculpture and at the age of ten he won the national school art competition. Surely, and from then on, he knew that art was the way to follow. From a very young age he studied percussion, painting and engraving with great masters, and clearly dedicated himself to the plastic arts from the age of 17, after a mystical trip to India. Self-taught, he pursued his career freely at the San Carlos academy and, at the same time, graduated in Industrial Design. Like any good young painter, at first it is difficult to exhibit in galleries and museums, but soon his first patrons arrive: Mauricio Achar and Luis Méndez Jiménez, who manage to get Juan Sebastián to convert the walls of the emblematic café of the Gandhi Bookstore, a meeting point for great Mexican and international intellectuals such as Fernando Savater, Jorge Luis Borges, Octavio Paz... and artists, among them, Arnaldo Cohen, Vicente Rojo, Jan Hendrix, José Luis Cuevas, into a private exhibition space.
From these experiences he has produced around 5,000 works including drawings, engravings, acrylics, oils, sculpture and object art. He has exhibited more than 40 solo exhibitions in Latin American cultural centres, museums and prestigious galleries in different countries, including Mexico, Spain, France, Israel, the United States and India, and in all the countries of Latin America in the collective “Iberoamérica pinta”, organised by UNESCO and the Fondo de Cultura Económica in 1997-1998. In this publication, the work inspired by the stories Casi un Objeto, by José Saramago and the play Feliz Nuevo Siglo Doktor Freud, by Sabina Berman, stands out. Juan Sebastián relates his most recent work to the existentialist character of Nietzsche’s philosophy. In 1993 he won first place with the dragon “Nicolás” in the Toy Art Object Contest, organized by Impronta editores, Sedesol, the DDF and the trust for help to street children. He also reveals his taste and passion for always working alongside two young poets: Paola Herrera Ledesma and Dulce Chiang, in a poetic-pictorial collusion that has led to the creation of the Dragoneros Group. Currently his work can be found in different private and public collections and he is known for his renowned publications: Los conjuros, Polígrafa, Barcelona 1994; La vida y sus dibujos, 1995; Periolibros in 1997; Objeto Casi 1999; Su anuario 1989-2002; as well as the mural works in public spaces that we can see in the Gandhi Bookstore, in Pasaje Altavista, in Lucent Technologies, in Sport City, or in Nelson Vargas, in Mexico City, open works among which the monumental sculpture of Conalep in Edomex stands out. Juan Sebastián is a painter recognized mainly in the cultural world in Spain and Mexico. As a visual artist he is part of the National System of Mexican Creators, inserted in the payment in kind program, with which his work is incorporated into the heritage of the nation.

Spanish Sculptor Fenosa was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1899 and as a young man worked in the studio of sculptor Enrique Casanovas where he came into contact with the ideas and adherents of the Modernist Movement and its influence in Barcelona, Paris and other European cities. In 1917 he founded together with Joan Rebull, Josep Granyer and Josep Viladomat the group The Evolutionists. He arrived in Paris in 1921. There he quickly gravitated into the Parisian avant garde artist community and became friends with Pablo Picasso, who became an early patron of his work, buying a significant number of his sculptures, and with the sculptor Max Jacob. By 1924 Fenosa was exhibiting in Paris and in his native city of Barcelona. Max Jacob wrote the preface to the catalogs of Fenosa's first Paris exhibition, and his show at the Zborowski gallery in 1928. In 1931 Fenosa was in Catalonia when the Second Spanish Republic was declared. There he remained in order to work with the anarchist movement and participate in the Republican ranks during the Spanish Civil War. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1936 and with the coming to power of the Franco Fascist regime left Spain once again to settle in Paris. In 1942, he met the painter and poet, Paul Eluard, who became a close friend.
In 1944, the Comite de Liberation du Limousin (Organization for the Liberation of the Limousin) commissions a sculpture to commemorate the Nazi killings of Oradour-sur-Glane. He creates the "Monument aux Martyrs d'Oradour-sur-Glane" (Monument to the Martyrs of Oradour) presently in Limoges.
From 1946 Fenosa exhibited individually or collectively in Paris, London, Barcelona, Madrid, Prague, New York, Tokyo, Rabat, Osaka, Casablanca, Carrara.
His personal exhibition catalogs are prefaced by the most famous writers and poets of his time, including Paul Eluard, Jean Cocteau, Jules Supervielle, Josep Carner, Alexandre Cirici-Pellicer, Francis Ponge, Pablo Neruda, Michel Cournot, Roger Caillois, Salvador Espriu. He was part of a generation of Spanish and Catalan artists that included Jose Amat Pages, Ramon Pichot, Alfredo Opisso Cardona, Ramon Aguilar More, Juan Cardona Llados, Josep Miquel Serrano, Ignacio Zuloaga Y Zabaleta, Andre Beaudin, Francisco Domingo Y Segura, Jose Armet Y Portanel, Jose Ventosa Domenech, Antonio Vila Arrufat, Montserrat Gudiol Corominas, Juan Abello Prat, Francesc Artigau.
In 1981, the UNESCO commissions a bronze sculpture given every year to the laureate of the Unesco Prize for Peace Education. Fenosa creates L'Olivier, the "Olive Tree", symbol of peace and attribute of the poet. In 1982, he receives the Gold Medal of the Government of Catalonia, in 1983 the Legion d'Honneur ( French Legion of Honour) and in 1987 the Gold Medal of Barcelona.
He is commissioned to make a bronze sculpture award for the Joan Crexells Narrative Prize, the premier Catalan language literary prize awarded by the Ateneo Barcelonés to the best narrative work in Catalan published during the previous year.
