About the Item

Lee Wells Miracle at the Midday Soirée (EOW L19) End of the World Party Series 2023 Archival pigment print Edition of 5 Signed, dated and numbered by the artist Caption: Miracle at the Midday Soirée: In the vibrant embrace of LA's lush greenery, 'Golden Gabe,' 'Emerald Elle,' 'Psychedelic Sam,' and 'Bohemian Bea' are the epitome of chic against the pool's azure calm. As they revel in the day's warmth, an air of mystique swirls with the smoke around them. Then, 'Magdalene the Marvelous' appears, gracing the water's surface with her steps, unfazed by gravity, her poise as supernatural as the moment itself. Together, they are the alchemy of style and sorcery, witnesses to the impossible at the world's most extraordinary finale. 20 x 30 inches Edition of 5 - $2300 30 x 40 inches Edition of 5 - $3500 40 x 60 inches Edition of 5 - $5700 48 x 72 inches Edition of 1 - $8900 "Poolside Party (2023)" is a playful series of AI-assisted artworks by Lee Wells that reincarnates the Naiades from ancient mythology into lavish 21st-century pool parties. The project began while the artist was in residency in South Crete. During this period, he endeavoured to communicate with the local goddesses through meditation, natural medicine, and various AI tools. These tools served as channelling mediums, helping him gain a deeper understanding of the realms they inhabit, as well as our own. The digital artworks serve as a new form of painting, showcasing intriguing and exquisite figures relaxing and revelling poolside at mesmerising garden house parties. Through this collaborative effort between the artist, the spirits, and AI, the overarching message conveyed is that life is fleeting. Thus, the most crucial thing is to enjoy ourselves, have fun, and strive to love as best we can in this wonderful and strange world we call home. Lee Wells (b.1971) is a conceptual artist, writer and technology consultant whose work ranges from painting, drawing and photography, to video and new media. His work focuses on systems of power and control in society and has been presented internationally for over 20 years. Most recently his work has investigated the influences of new technologies including artificial intelligence on contemporary life and asks the viewer to reevaluate their perceptions of reality and personal identity. Wells’ work has been included in exhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum, PS1/MoMA, Mykonos Biennale, National Center for Contemporary Art Moscow, 51st Venice Biennale, The State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, in addition to numerous universities, festivals, art fairs, and galleries. 'Love Garden Party (Envy)' by Skip Hill, Mixed Media Painting
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 26.5" x 29.5" by American artist, Skip Hill, is a vibrant mixed media collage/painting combining abstracted figures with stylized vases and domestic objects, adhering to the stylistic qualities of the Pop Art movement. The abstracted cats and the female figure are the focal points within the composition. Layered textures and material juxtapositions adhere to the assemblage processes. The integration of food bowls, patterned vessels, and foreign script introduces surreal narrative elements and multicultural references, positioning the work within postmodern collage traditions. 'Love Garden Party (Envy)' is on 150 lb paper stock and is hand embellished with inks, acrylic paints and collage, thus creating a unique work of art. Love Garden Party (Envy) is framed with conservation quality, high UV-filtering museum glazing. The painting/collage is signed on the lower front of the work by the artist. The work is framed in a heavy white wooden frame. Skip Hill was born in 1961 in Padre Island, Texas but grew up primarily in Oklahoma City. After attending Oklahoma City University to study Advertising and Marketing, he worked as a graphic designer before relocating in 1987 to Southern California. A two-week trip to Thailand in 1989 turned into a year traveling throughout Southeast Asia while writing for a business magazine based in Bangkok. In 1990 Skip Hill relocated to the Netherlands, immersing himself in the culture and learning the Dutch language. His frequent visits the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as well as the Boijman Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, sparked Hill’s interest in creating art inspired by aesthetic concerns over the strictly commercial art he produced during his advertising career. It was during this time abroad that he traveled through Germany, Czechoslovakia and Morocco. After returning to Oklahoma in 1993, Skip Hill studied formally at The University of Oklahoma with conceptual artist Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds, and influential abstract painter George Bogart...
