About the artist:
Mady de La Giraudière spent her childhood in Lavelanet, France. At the end of her studies at 19, she wanted to enter the École des beaux-arts , but ran into the veto of her father, Émile Couquet, a great figure in the Lavelanet industry. Passionate about drawing and painting since her earliest childhood, she works alone, with nature as sole master.
Around 1955, she met Anatole Jakovsky , "The Pope of the Naïve", who guides her to fill her lack of artistic training and demands a lot of work from her in the hope of being able to organize a first exhibition in Paris.
She then painted a hundred canvases in 3 years, of which around forty were selected by Anatole Jakovsky who organized her first exhibition at the Henri Benezit gallery in Paris . This exhibition was a real event because it was the second time that an exhibition devoted to a single naive painter was held in the capital.
Her paintings appear in museums of the naive in Nice , Vicq , Laval , Auvers-sur-Oise , Lausanne , London , Tokyo , New York . Seven of his works, paintings measuring 1.70 m by 1.30 m which tell the story of the life of Christ , appear in the church of Lavelanet. The artist also lent his assistance to renovate the wedding hall in the same city. The work of Madeleine De La Giraudiere is held in collections and museums worldwide including:
Le musée d'Art Moderne et Musée Saint Pierre à Paris
Le musée de VICQ
Le musée de LAVAL
Le musée Saint Hélène à Nice
Le musée des Augustins à Toulouse
