Lithograph on vélin bouffant d'Alfa paper. Inscription: unsigned and unnumbered, as issued. Good condition. Notes: From the volume, Le Dur Désir de Durer, illustré par Marc Chagall, 1950. Published by Éditions Arnold Bordas, Paris; printed by Ateliers de Daniel Jacomet, Paris, under the supervision of Marc Chagall, Paris, 1950. Excerpted from the volume (translated from French), It was shot of this volume, containing the full text in french, XV examples on vélin pur chiffon BFK de Rives numbered from I to is XV; examples on vélin bouffant d'Alfa, numbered from XVI to MXV. The color frontispiece was printed by hand in Ateliers de Daniel Jacomet under the control of Marc Chagall; the layout was made by André-Charles Gervais.
MARC CHAGALL (1897-1985) Russian-Jewish painter is recognized as one of the most significant painters and graphic artists of his time. Chagall painted in a style all his own, combining elements of Expressionism, Symbolism, Cubism and, to a lesser degree, other Modernist art movements. His works combine recollection with folklore and fantasy. A prolific and multi-faceted artist, Chagall left behind him thousands of works in many different techniques and media that have established him as one of the foremost artists of the 20th Century.
