Marcello Venali
Grey Oval - Lithograph by Marcello Avenali - 1960

1960

About the Item

Grey Oval is a lithograph realized by Marcello Avenali between the 1960s and 1970s. It is a composition with female legs and shoes and some abstract figures instead of the body.  Hand-signed in pencil on the lower right margin, numbered in pencil on lower left margin. Signed on plate on the lower right margin. Edition of 100 prints.  Good conditions. Nice composition realized by Avenali after the figurative period. The artist realized a lot of artworks with female bodies and legs, not only with figurative lines but also with the presence of abstract compositions, especially after the 1960's. Marcello Avenali (Roma, 1912 - Roma, 1981) is an Italian artist and engraver. After the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome, followed the Experimental Cinematographic Center; in 1939 exhibited for the first time at Gallenga Gallery in Rome. He took part in the main national exhibitions of the fifties, also sending, in 1955, some works to the Exhibition of Contemporary Italian Art of Johannesburg, and in 1958 he won the "Viterbo" and "Villa S. Giovanni" prizes. His language was initially oscillating between the expressive possibilities of post-cubist figurativeness and those of a more determined abstraction. His works can be found in the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome and in the contemporary art collection of the Pontifical Museums and Galleries, as well as in numerous private collections.
