Year published - 1999 Edition - 350, plus proofs Printer - J K Fine Art Editions Co., NJ From the master printers private collection. About the artist- Maurice Evans was born in Smyrna, TN. His creative focus was first realized through the lens of music. His father was a gifted singer and drummer in a gospel choir. He introduced Evans to guitar lessons at the age of 4. His family settled in Georgia and he began to draw more upon his artistic instincts in high school. His mother, who was a teacher by profession, reinforced and supported his creative ability by allowing him to help design her classroom bulletin boards each year. By the time Evans was graduating, he had not only gained confidence to pursue his passion, but also gained recognition as a talented artist at Griffin High School. In 1986, he was accepted to the Art Institute of Atlanta where he studied Fashion Illustration with the intention of advancing his drawing and painting skills. After college, Evans pursued a number of odd jobs working for large and small design firms, but he never felt satisfied as he could not achieve the freedom he was yearning for as an independent artist. So in 1994, he had his first successful exhibition at the juried Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. He was supported by his friends and family in this venture. Soon, he participated as an exhibiting artist at the New York Art Expo where he was introduced to new collectors and clients. As his independent career progressed, his work was exhibited in numerous venues and galleries where he received national and international acclaim. Maurice Evans' art is featured in many prestigious galleries and institutions all over the world. His artistic creativity is expressed through a diverse mixture of photography and art; his imagery revealing elements of abstract expressions, graceful forms and bold colors.

By James Denmark
Located in Union City, NJ
BACKYARD by the artist James Denmark is an original hand drawn, limited edition lithograph printed on archival Somerset paper, 100% acid free using traditional hand lithography techniques. BACKYARD is one of Denmark's colorful collage compositions of everyday African American life - a soulful Southern country folk scene featuring a standing woman wearing a red orange skirt, multicolored floral print top, and dark indigo print head wrap; her male companion dressed in blue denim jeans, dark indigo print shirt and denim hat sitting in the backyard as the patchwork quilts flutter on the clothesline. Vivid coloration and textures captivate the eye with variety - deep violet, reds, fiery orange, touches of yellow, dark black and shades of blue - a very strong impression and fine example of hand lithography!
