About the Item

Medium: Lithograph Edition Size: 100 Image Size: 25.6 × 20 Nahum Zenil’s Otro Sueño (“Another Dream”) merges autobiography, myth, and desire. Across the top register, a frieze of galloping horses charges forward, ridden by a nude figure and a winged companion—symbols of transcendence and longing. Below, in stark contrast, a barren landscape rises into a phallic form, an unmistakable reference to the erection of the dreamer, grounding the work in the intimate realities of the body. Zenil is celebrated for blending self-portraiture, sexuality, and cultural archetypes into dreamlike imagery that is at once deeply personal and universal. Otro Sueño exemplifies this approach, balancing vitality and silence, dream and awakening, spirit and flesh. The muted palette and layered textures connect the work to Mexico’s rich printmaking traditions while marking it as unmistakably Zenil—poetic, erotic, and resonant with symbolic depth

El Sueno Despierta
By Juan Fuentes
Located in Palm Springs, CA
Signed, numbered and titled in pencil, from the edition of 30. Sueño Despierta (“Awake Dream”) is a visual meditation on identity, resilience, and cultural memory. Blending symbolic imagery with portraiture, the piece features a central figure whose eyes are open in a state of alert dreaming. Surrounding elements such as plants, spiritual motifs, and historical references evoke a deep connection to ancestral roots and collective struggle. Fuentes' intricate line work and layered textures create a dreamlike yet grounded atmosphere, emphasizing awakening not as an escape, but as a call to consciousness. The turbulent times of the 70’s set the tone for Fuentes' approach to creating social art...
