La Tentation de Saint-Antoine is a complete set of 24 original lithographs realized by Odilon Redon and published by Ambrose Vollard in 1896, This is the third edition of this masterpiece of Graphics and the first by Vollard.
Rare edition of 50 copies, in folio.
Hand-signed in pencil, binding by Thierry Saint de Petit-Simier.
In very good conditions.
Odilon Redon (born Bertrand Redon (1840 -1916) was a French symbolist painter printmaker.
He is best known for the "dreamlike" paintings created in the first decade of the 20th century, which were inspired by japanese art and which, while continuing to take inspiration from nature, flirted with abstraction. His work is considered a precursor to both Dadaism and Surrealism.He has a unique tendecy of artistic naturalism and symbolic subject matter, and influential among the late 19th century French avant-garde circle. Working in charcoal, pastel, oil, and lithography.
Redon described his work as ambiguous and undefinable: My drawings inspire, and are not to be defined. They place us, as does music, in the ambiguous realm of the undetermined.
