About the Item

This exquisite lithograph and silkscreen with hand-rendered techniques after Pablo Picasso (1881–1973), from the rare 1970 folio Pablo Picasso, Le Gout du Bonheur (The Taste of Happiness), trois carnets d'atelier, originates from one of the artist’s final and most intimate print projects. Published by Éditions Cercle d'Art, Paris, rendered by Guenther Dietz, Lengmoos employing procédé Dietz, Dietz Officin Handpresse, Lengmoos, and printed by Dietz Officin Handpresse, Lengmoos, this edition presents three complete sketchbooks executed by Picasso in 1964, faithfully created using an advanced combination of lithography, silkscreen, and hand-rendered techniques. The compositions capture Picasso’s unrestrained graphic energy and joie de vivre, revealing the sensuality, humor, and spontaneity that defined his late artistic expression. Executed on velin d'Arches paper, this print measures 12.8 x 9.84 inches (32.5 x 25 cm). As issued, it is unsigned and unnumbered, consistent with the authorized 1970 publication format. Produced under the supervision of Guenther Dietz and Éditions Cercle d’Art, this edition preserves the tonal immediacy, expressive freedom, and textural nuance of Picasso’s original sketchbooks, offering a vivid insight into his private creative process during his final decades. The unique and worldwide edition of the album is provided jointly by Éditions Cercle d'Art, Paris, les Éditions Harry N. Abrams, New York, and les Éditions Carl Schünemann, Bremen. The print run is set at MCMXCVIII examples for the III editions, each numbered differently from I to DCLXVI. The first XXXV examples of each edition also include an original etching signed by the artist. The etching was drawn in CXXV examples, XX examples being reserved for the artist and his friends." About the Artist: Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, and ceramicist whose revolutionary vision redefined modern art in the 20th century. Born in Malaga, Spain, he demonstrated prodigious talent from an early age and trained in Barcelona and Madrid before moving to Paris, where he became the epicenter of avant-garde innovation. Picasso pioneered Cubism alongside Georges Braque, explored emotional depth through his Blue and Rose periods, and continually reinvented his style across thousands of works in painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. His influence spans movements from Surrealism to abstraction, and his work remains central to global art history. The highest price ever paid for one of his artworks is approximately US $179.4 million for Les Femmes d'Alger (Version O) (1955).
