About the Item

The repetition of patterns and rhythm is present in almost every piece of Pedro´s work. The hybrid topographies that Pedro Friedeberg´s unclassifiable practice recreates we must recur to the Baroque and the neo-Baroque, both understood as aesthetics. The ornament, which in many ancient civilizations fulfilled a sacred function, has sadly disappeared from our agnostic and pragmatic culture. The artist, eternally in love with the Egyptian, Gothic, Baroque, and Victorian arabesque and ornament, has tried to restore that love for ornament and many of his paintings resemble a compendium of ornaments, reaching the point of obsessive mania, where "too much is not enough". We can think about Friedeberg´s work in different ways, as a neo-Baroque stage set, a narrator of enigmatic tales, and a theatre director who immerses us into operatic dream scenarios, where everything is unexpected and mutable.
