About the Item

Words, words, words! is an artwork realized bySuzanne Tourte, in 1940s. China ink on paper. 33 x 25 cm. Good conditions, except for some yellowing on paper, due to time. Suzanne Tourte, born December 16, 1904 in Cormontreuil (Marne) and died in Argenteuil on April 18, 1979, was a French painter and lithographer. She moved to Paris in 1924, where she evolved in the artistic and literary world. André Maurois, Hervé Bazin, Paul Guth, Armand Lanoux, Louise de Vilmorin, Robert Mallet, Paul Fort cultivated his friendship and sang his praises. At the beginning of the 20th century when the fundamental concepts of art were called into question, Suzanne Tourte witnessed an unrestrained competition between artists who were looking for new ways of expression: the audacity of Fauvism, the affirmation of Cubism, the birth from abstraction, aggressive expressionism and so many others, then the "return to order" to the Second World War. At the heart of this turmoil, Suzanne Tourte knew how to create her own universe. His early works are frankly figurative. It then evolved towards a so-called "winding" period where the modeling of its characters is outlined in one line. But it was around the 1950s that, her painting reaching the full maturity of her art, she gave the best of herself. This very personal work, the most constructed, corresponds to the so-called geometric period. A so-called “serene” period followed.
