Hermant's “moralistic tale” is interpreted and illuminated by Brunelleschi's radically modern designs, which are found throughout the volume, both as 12 full-page plates and smaller vignettes. The illustrations were printed and colored in pochoir by the master Jean Saudé. Widely considered one of the loveliest books of the Art Deco period. A beautiful book in excellent condition; colors exceptionally fresh and vibrant. Numbered 215/275.

Umberto Brunelleschi
Umberto Brunelleschi was a celebrated Italian artist. He led a prolific career in costume and set design, as well as children’s book illustrations. During his career, he worked for venues such as the Folies Bergere, the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris and La Scala in Milan, and also designed costumes for Josephine Baker.
