Scribe and Personal Assistant to the Shogun - Japanese Woodblock Print on Paper

About the Item

Scribe and Personal Assistant to the Shogun - Japanese Woodblock Print on Paper Detailed woodblock print by an unknown artist, In the style of Suzuki Harunobu. There are two women in the scene with reams of silk on table. Each is labeled with her occupation - the woman holding the scroll and brush is a scribe, and the other woman is the personal assistant to the shogun. They are bowing down on the floor in a room with several small tables. We can assume the scene is an audience with the Shogunate or other Samurai Lord. Behind them, a doorway is open to the outside, where there is a well-manicured tree. It is possible that this is a piece of a larger composition, as there does not appear to be an artist's chop or signature in this scene. Presented in an aluminum frame with an off-white mat.
