Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III)
Japanese Actors - Woodcut by Utagawa Kunisada - 19th Century

19th Century

About the Item

Japanese Actors is a superb colored woodcut realized in the XIX century by one of the most famous Japanese Ukiyo-e artists: Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III (1786 - 1865). Signed on plate in a cartouche on the lower right corner. This wonderful modern artwork represents a theatrical scene, on a theater stage, with two actors dressed as a samurai with weapons. The piece has small damages on the edges, but it is very well-inked and presents shiny colors. In very good sheet conditions, with some little imperceptible holes of the paper on the higher right corner and some light stains on the lower left margin.
