About the Item
Original colored lithograph by the Argentina born artist Zule Moskowitz. Signed “Zule” bottom right. Condition is excellent. Circa 2000. Gallery label verso. Under glass. Beautifully double matted and framed in ornate gold frame in fine condition. Edition of 400. A typical subject for the artist who ‘s main subject matter were the outdoor cafes of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. Overall framed measurements are 22.25 by 25.5 inches. Provenance: Regency Fine Art, Norcross, Georgia.
About the Artist... Zule Moskowitz
The art of Zule Moskowitz is rooted in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Zule captured the romance and excitement of life in the artist's quarter, "Caminito," and was moved and inspired by the most famous artist of the time – Kinkila Martin. Martin inspired a revitalization of Caminito. The wish fulfillment of his stylized images of houses baptized with splashes of vibrant color transformed the community.
Cafe society took hold of Caminito and Moskowitz captures that laissez-faire attitude with her flowing pastels and bold paintings.
Using only her thumbs as tools to create the pastels, Zule, like Martin before her, makes rich color slashes as individual gestures that when taken as a whole, form an ever pleasing panorama. Women always dominate the works, with men playing a supporting, albeit, chivalric role. Horse drawn carriages and gas lit lampposts evoke a time that Zule will never let die. Trained and schooled in Argentina, Zule's dream of becoming an established and successful artist has come true. In 1962 she realized another dream, and moved her entire family across the world to the land of Israel. She passed away a few years ago.
