About the Item

This original poster about the city of Gap, a small town surrounded by beautiful mountains and bathed in Mediterranean sunshine, was created by Gaston Gorde in 1932 for the PLM railway company. The composition is clearly out of the ordinary: two thirds of the image is occupied by a black area with lines. These are actually clouds and rain, symbolizing bad weather. However, it is the last third that attracts attention: as if sheltered by the name Gap, an oasis resists the ambient greyness. The sun shines brightly, the mountains and pastures are idyllic. As if to emphasize the message, the following inscription appears at the bottom: "sun all year round". Railway - Tourism - Hautes-Alpes France Altitude 740 meters General in Grenoble
