Jacques Villon (actually Gaston Emile Duchamp) was a Belle Epoque painter and master printmaker who moved into Cubism. He was part of a family of artists that included Marcel Duchamp, Suzanne Duchamp, and Raymond Duchamp. Jean Crotti (1878 - 1958) later married Duchamp's sister, Suzanne. Jean Crotti was a modernist painter. Swiss, he studied in Munich and experimented in several different styles. Among then were Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Fauvism and forms of Cubism. This image combines several of those styles. They were both associated with Francis Picabia, Albert Gleizes and Juan Gris. Crotti fled WW I Europe and settled in New York for a time and died in Paris. Jacques Villon executed a series of beautifully etched color aquatints after paintings by many of his contemporaries. They were signed in pencil by both Villon and the painter. Dada, Cubism, Abstract, Modernist, Deco, Fauve
