"Carlos García de la Nuez. Born in Havana, Cuba, 1959. Lives and works in Mexico City, Mexico.
He is a member of the renowned 1980s generation of Cuban artists, whose works differentiated from other contemporaries, noticeably in their intentional distancing from political criticism as a form of expression. By Angel Otero
Located in New York, NY
Angel Otero is known for oil paintings of bleeding color fields that bunch and crease to create topographic textures. Here, they read as intricate line work atop a tumultuous sea of brushed pastels. Inspired by a visit to the Lincoln Center archives, Otero drew a connection between the dramatic flair captured in photographs of operas presented during the 1970s and works from his “Poussin” series.
