David Wightman is a British artist known for his striking landscape paintings that blend abstraction with a unique use of colour and texture. Born in 1980, Wightman studied at the Royal College of Art and has developed a distinctive style characterized by geometric compositions and bold, vivid hues. His works often depict imagined mountainous landscapes, created using intricately layered collaged wallpaper, giving his paintings a rich, textured surface. Influenced by both classical landscape painting and contemporary abstraction, Wightman’s work evokes a sense of nostalgia and dreamlike escapism. David Wightman
David Wightman is known for his intensely-coloured paintings and prints of fictional landscapes. He describes his imagined landscapes as both idealised and impossible. Colour and composition are the main preoccupations of his work. The surfaces of his paintings are made from textured wallpaper collaged with a technique similar to marquetry. Wightman studied Fine Art at Middlesex University (2001) and gained an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London (2003). He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions and has been commissioned by English Heritage and Arts Council England.
Wightman has also collaborated with the fashion label Akris. He has held multiple solo exhibitions with reputable galleries internationally and has featured in Harper's Bazaar, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Financial Times, and Money Week.
