About the Item

Engraving by Emanuele Brugnoli (Bologna, 1859 - Venice, 1944), an artist trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna under Valentino Solmi. Brugnoli is known for his fine production of watercolor views and etchings devoted mainly to the city of Venice, depicted with attention to architectural details and daily life. This etching, made in the 1920s, depicts St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. The artist immortalizes the famous basilica with extraordinary precision and luministic sensitivity, restoring the depth of the urban space and the decorative complexity of its facades. The work measures 17.5 × 23 cm (engraving), while the complete sheet has dimensions of 47.8 × 33.7 cm. In the lower left corner appears the engraved signature "E. Brugnoli inc." and, in the left margin, in pencil, the title "52. St. Mark's Church." The engraving is in good condition; the present frame, elegant but not coeval, harmoniously complements the work.
