About the Item

Baroque 17th century German fountain design Copper-line engraving, published in 1664 in Nuremberg. From 'Architectura Curiosa Nova' by George Andreas Beckley (fl. 1648 – 1685). Boeckler, a German architect and engineer from Nuremberg was fascinated with water-raising devices, mills and other industrial machinery, fountains and all things mechanical, especially machines with many gears and complex moving parts. “Architectura Curiosa Nova” is a comprehensive overview of the fountains of Europe with an introduction about the technical side of hydraulic engineering. It shows many examples of fountains and the differing effects that can be created by the flow of water through them. Also shown are the settings of many fountains including garden architecture and the gardens and grottoes on the grounds where these fountains were located. 265mm by 180mm (platemark) 335mm by 220mm (sheet)
