Etching on laid and watermarked paper (a double circles visible near the bell tower). 38 th Plate from the series " Views of Rome".
Signed on plate on lower-left margin "Piranesi F.". According to Hind, Third State on VII. Address and price "Presso l'autore a Strada Felice nel Palazzo Tomati vicino alla T. dei Monti. A paoli due e mezzo" on the lower-right margin. Roman Edition.
In very good condition, fresh impression and a vibrant black. A light decoloration on the right margin.
Views of Rome
A wonderful series executed over the course of Piranesi's career, from the second half of the 1740s until his death, were printed and sold as individual sheets or in collections that gradually increased as his output progressed, and occasionally included other series of prints as well.
