Early 18th Century

$532.70

About

View Of Kinnungam is an original print realized in the beginning of the XVIII century by Pieter van der Aa. Hand-watercolored etching. Includes frame 42 x 52.5 cm. Original title, Kunnungam- Ville en Chine, print on plate on higher center. Author name print on plate on lower left. Good conditions. This artwork is from La Galerie agreable du Monde a monumental 66 part atlas published by Pieter van der Aa in Leiden from 1724 to 1729. It's considered the largest atlas ever published and possibly the costliest and comprehensive geographical work ever produced. The volume contained plates that generally consist of views, maps, and street plans, reissues of maps by the principal cities including Beijing, Nanjing, Guangdong, and Tianjin; costume plates, flags, court ceremonies, funeral rites, animals, Chinese ships, in addition to Van der Aa's own maps prepared specifically for this interesting atlas. This print represents a view of the city of Kinnungam with two large boats sailing in the foreground at left and center; in the background the building's profile of the Chinese village. Pieter van der Aa (1659 - 1733) was a Dutch publisher of maps and atlases active in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. During his long and impressive career, Van der Aa produced thousands of maps, including a vast 28 volume atlas containing no less than 3,000 maps. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
