A gem. “Robert Kipniss – In the twilight zone between recollection and imagination a New York painter has found a vista of mind and mood that he calls ‘the Inner Landscape’. With hushed tones, feathered brushings, and eerie chiaroscuro, he invests his scenes with the appearance of reality and the ambiance of dream.” – Time Magazine Robert Kipniss – Painter, Printmaker, and Poet – was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1931. He studied at Wittenberg College (now University) in Springfield, Ohio, and the University of Iowa. His major was literature with a special interest in poetry. It was during his studies at the University of Iowa that Kipniss took his first official painting class. In 1951 he entered a painting competition in New York City and was awarded his first one-artist show in a 57th Street gallery. In 1967 he made his first prints, using the drypoint technique, and soon after began making lithographs, creating over 400 images between 1968 and 1990. Since 1990 his printmaking has been almost exclusively in intaglio with the majority being mezzotints. Robert Kipniss has work in over 70 museums worldwide and numerous private collections. Since his first show in 1951, he has had more than 180 one-artist exhibitions. Robert Kipniss has been elected to the National Academy in New York, NY, and The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in London, England. He is a member of the Society of American Graphic Artists (SAGA), the Century Association, and received lifetime achievement awards from SAGA and the Artists Fellowship, Inc.

Lotus
By Maki Hino
Located in New Orleans, LA
Hino creates a still life of a lotus from an edition of 65. A prominent figure in Buddhist and Egyptian culture, and native flower for both India and Vietnam, the lotus holds enormous symbolic weight. It spans various thousand-year-old Eastern cultures and yet, is still considered one of the most sacred flowers today. So what is it about this mysterious blossom that people find so enrapturing? Its colorful bloom is an obvious suspect, but the lotus also has a life cycle unlike any other. With its roots based in mud, it submerges every night into murky river water, and—undeterred by its dirty environment—it miraculously re-blooms the next morning without residue on its petals. Although cultures have their own interpretations of this daily process, there is a general consensus among ancient texts...
