About the Item
"Night falls and the day recedes. Again, I attempt to capture the rich and poignant beauty of a perfect day in Sri Lanka, gone forever but not forgotten. The earth is gold as the colour of the light warms then fades.
The image endeavours to celebrate of the noble presence and elegant sway of the ubiquitous palm tree. The palm tree has many symbolic meanings and in this image I have tried to highlight its association with immortality and regeneration with the addition of gold leaf.." Valda Bailey
Valda Bailey (b.1958) is a British artist and photographer. Her work is greatly informed by her background in painting and influences come as much from artists as photographers. Her objective is less about portraying a literal representation but rather conveying feelings evoked by the landscape and she achieves this using multiple exposures and intentional camera movement.
"It came to me in the middle of the night - as these things often do - that to incorporate gold leaf into the finished print would neatly encapsulate some of the elements I am trying to express. Its application would obviously have to be done by hand with all its attendant imperfections and mistakes. Kintsugi - the Japanese art of patching broken ceramics with gold - shares its aesthetic with Wabi Sabi." - Valda Bailey
All Prints on glass are editionned but each piece is unique due to the hand gilding process;
Each piece is individually hand finished by the artist with gold, silver or copper leaf giving the piece its own unique and contemporary style.
The piece from the palm series here, has also a dose of Art Deco and Art Nouveau style in visual and technical aspect of gold leaf gild on glass and inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers; a sense of dynamism and movement, often given by asymmetry or whiplash lines.
Valda Bailey's work has been featured in national and international publications. She has exhibited widely in the UK and in 2015 was the first woman to be invited to join six other photographers to exhibit at the biennial Masters of Vision at Southwell Minster. Her work is held in numerous private art and photography collections.
Shipping; the work would be crated for safety of glass with curb-side delivery; more information can be provided with the exact address. Free delivery in London area.

Valda Bailey (b.1958) is a British artist and photographer. Her work is greatly informed by her background in painting and influences come as much from artists as photographers. Her intention is less about portraying a literal representation but rather conveying feelings evoked by the landscape and she achieves this using various techniques to blur detail and abstract shapes. "I am primarily driven by an exploration of colour and form. My objective is to bring an emotional element and aesthetic balance to my work. I try to depict the subtleties of the landscape and am happiest making images from the smallest, most insignificant detail - the challenge being to portray the essence of what is about my subject matter that has taken my eye. (...) I have been influenced by many great talents; some of my inspirations include Jay Maisel. Also Raphael Shevelev, Chris Friel, Rob Hudson, Paul Kenny, Dough Chinnery, Fay Godwin, Ernst Haas, Aaron Siskind, Andre Kertesz, Vivian Maier, Sarah Moon, Arnold Newman, Klavdij Sluban, Alexey Titarenko, Charlie Waite to name just a few. Painers whose work I particularly admire include Bonnard, Cezanne, Chagall, Diebenkorn, Kandinsky, Klee, Matisse, Rothko, Picasso, Van Gogh, Frankenthaler and many others." - Valda Bailey Valda's Southern Song series is part of a larger project that attempts to explore the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi. One of many dictionary definitions defines it, as "a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay." This doesn't even begin to unravel its complexities; indeed, so intangible are its philosophies that many Japanese scholars will only attempt to illuminate its mysteries through the medium of poetry. All works are small edition, printed onto museum glass. Each work is individually hand finished by the artist with gold, silver or copper leaf giving the piece its own unique style. Valda Bailey's work has been featured in national and international publications. She has exhibited widely in the UK and in 2015 was the first woman to be invited to join six other photographers to exhibit at the biennial Masters of Vision at Southwell Minster. She has been awarded a direct Fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society in January 2020. Her work is held in numerous private art and photography collections.

Touched By Gold - Soothing Pink Sky Palm Tree Abstract Landscape Impression
By Kathleen Keifer
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Kathleen Keifer is a California-based internationally collected artist. She is a leading force of the New California Realism. Kathleen brings a fresh, clean perspective to her colorful scenes of everyday life in the sun along the Pacific coastline (and beyond). Her paintings show us the breathtaking California scenery with its recognizable elements in a new light and with a keen eye on a clever composition and layered colors.
This one-of-a-kind 12 inch high by 9 inch wide original artwork is a photorealistic composition created with acrylic paint on canvas. It is ready to hang. The sides are painted and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and global shipping is available.
Kathleen’s paintings invite the viewer to consider the complex relationship between time and timelessness. It is the sheer visual interaction between the elements, taken in their bare simplicity that interests her. Water, sky, and architecture change their appearance with the shifts in weather and light. Her broken brush strokes depict light and color in luminous waves, dissolving form into a shimmering surface of vibrant light. For her, painting captures the very essence of time and its passage.
While painting landscapes she became fascinated with isolating the objects in her paintings. She believes that actual sites and places have an individual magic. The goal is to take objects from popular culture and paint them in a new context. She began to paint the silhouette of the Life Guard Tower more as a pop art symbol than landscape element. With a high level of technical virtuosity Keifer creates a new sense of reality with textures and colors that seem to add lighting effects and distinct shadows, confronting the viewer with new interpretations of familiar objects.
Born and raised in Chicago, Kathleen Keifer is a second-generation artist. Her mother, also a fine artist, exposed Keifer to the world of art and supervised her training from a very early age. This legacy continues today as Keifer closely nurtures the development of the artistic leaning in each of her three daughters, inspiring a third generation of female artists. Her works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected internationally, including Chicago, New York and London.
Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Kathleen Keifer's original artworks since 2017. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. The spacious gallery exhibits a large selection of affordable original artworks from established and emerging international artists with diverse backgrounds at high standards. Artspace Warehouse is known to provide accurate descriptions, images, reliable services, communication, and delivery.

The Palms #6 (Abstract painting)
By Robert Baribeau
Located in London, GB
The Palms #6 (Abstract painting)
Charcoal on paper - Unframed.
Baribeau constructs his paintings layer upon layer, building color, form and texture into viscous, impasto compositions, on supports that are themselves often thick, and even sculptural. He scratches and scrawls across his surfaces, infusing visceral emotion and energy into the work. His imagery is so layered and dimensional that even his works on paper convey a sense of texture and depth.
Critics have connected Baribeau to a range of aesthetic positions, including everything from Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art to the 19th century Hudson River School, and compared him variously to the likes of Robert Rauschenberg, Joan Mitchell, Cy Twombly, and Willem de Kooning.
In truth, Baribeau employs a distinctive aesthetic voice that is personal and instantly recognizable, despite its multiplicity. His visual world is one where primordial, organic nature collides with the geometric, manufactured world, and where certain signature visual cues, such as black and white stripes, checkerboards, dots, and flashes of neon color appear and disappear.
His work is included in several institutional collections, including those of the Neuberger Museum, Purchase, NY; Morgan Stanley...
