Signed lower right, 'Zarou' for Victor Zarou (French, b. 1930), inscribed 'Epreuve d'Artiste' with number and limitation 1/40, lower left, and titled, lower center 'Chemin des Bastides'.
Born in 1930 in Gassin, a small village near Saint-Tropez, Victor Zarou first studied with his father, Tony Cardella, a listed Impressionist painter. Zarou painted avidly from a young age, first exhibiting and selling his work at the age of twelve. After two years of military service, spent as a paratrooper, Zarou moved to Paris in 1955 to study at the Academie Julian. After graduation, he achieved early success, exhibiting throughout France, including in Cannes, Nice and Lyon. He was the recipient of numerous medals and juried awards and also exhibited internationally, including with Chagall, Dali, and Picasso at galleries in Geneva and Stockholm . In 1971, the city of Paris awarded Zarou the Silver Medal for his distinguished services to art and, in 1980, he was awarded "the Gold Medal of Honor". Zarou is also invested as a Commander of the Society of French Artist. Zarou and is well listed in relevant art dictionaries including Benezit, Dictionnaire des Peintres, and Mayers among others.

Victor Zarou
