About the Item

A magnificent poster designed by Machatschek and Alain Perceval to promote the 1968 Olympic Games, officially known as the X Olympic Winter Games, which took place from February 6 to 18, 1968. Grenoble was awarded the Games on its first attempt. It was the second French city to host the Winter Olympics, after Chamonix in 1924. The Games brought together 1,158 athletes from 37 countries, a record for a Winter Games at the time. The Games broke new ground in a number of areas, including the use of anti-doping tests, women's tests, a global visual identity, electronic timekeeping and color television broadcasting via satellite.
