He immigrated to the US in his late teens, and earned BS and MFA degrees from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Spalatin has been exhibiting his artwork for over 40 years. His prints and paintings have been featured in over 70 solo exhibitions across the US, as well as in France, Croatia, Canada, Lebanon, Italy, and Slovenia, and in numerous group exhibitions in 12 countries. Spalatin’s work is represented in many private, corporate, and public collections, including: the Museum of Modern Art, New York City, New York; the Tate Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK; the Musée d’Art Moderne and the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris, France; the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio; the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, Ohio; the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York; the Library of Congress, Washington, DC; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the Milwaukee Museum of Art, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; the Elvehjem Museum of Art, Madison, Wisconsin; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; the Rochester Museum of Art, Rochester, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, Belgrade, Yugoslavia; the Museum of Modern Art, Novi Sad, Yugoslavia; the Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana, Slovenia; and the Metropolitan Museum, Manila, Philippines. Born in Ancona, De vita arrived in Bologna in the first post-war period, after having actively participated in the Second World War and having suffered the dramatic consequences. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts and was a pupil of Giorgio Morandi. From 1962 he taught in Milan at the Brera Academy , while in 1975 he returned to Bologna where he obtained the same chair of engraving that had been Morandi's from 1930 to 1956 . De Vita also actively dedicated himself to the theater , overseeing sets and costumes for shows that were also staged at La Scala in Milan.     Anthony Velonis (1911-1997) was an extremely innovative artist. He learned the technique of screen printing, also known as silkscreen, (for which he also coined the term serigraphy) while working with a wall paper manufacturer. Unusual for fine prints, the image is made by the artist in the same direction as it will print, as the colored inks are forced through fabric (silk) directly onto a paper surface. (He also invented a machine that could print onto column-shaped items such as cocktail glasses or make-up bottles and a rack system for drying sheets of paper with wet ink in which the sheets are just inches apart.) The technique allows extreme versatility on the part of the artist and the ink tends to sit on top of the paper rather than soak into the fibers. In 1934 Velonis used this new technique on Mayor LaGuardia's NYC Poster...
