About the Item
Exhibition poster for "Andy Warhol: Pasadena Art Museum," edition size unknown, unsigned as issued.
The name of American artist Andy Warhol is all but synonymous with Pop art, the movement he helped shape in the 1960s. He is known for his clever appropriation of motifs and images from popular advertising and commercials, which he integrated into graphic, vibrant works that utilized mass-production technologies such as printmaking, photography and silkscreening. Later in his career, he expanded his oeuvre to include other forms of media, founding Interview magazine and producing fashion shoots and films on-site at the Factory, his world-famous studio in New York.
This vibrant silkscreen poster was created for the Andy Warhol Exhibition held from May 12 - June 21, 1970 at the Pasadena Museum. This exhibition then traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Stedelijk Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven, the Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in Paris, The Tate Gallery in London and The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
Another impression of this Pasadena Poster is in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.

(after) Andy Warhol
Since 1960 American artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987) has been considered one of the most well known and controversial artists in American Pop Art, having becoming synonymous with Pop Art itself. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertising that flourished by the 1960s, and span a variety of media, including painting, silkscreening, photography, film and sculpture. Warhol used common images of popular media that were executed with hardline realism, and were considered new and outrageous. Andy Warhol is considered to be the #1 top performing artists on the art market today, comprising a sizable chunk of the contemporary art market. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Warhol initially pursued a successful career as a commercial illustrator. After exhibiting his work in several galleries in the late 1950s, he began to receive recognition as an influential and controversial artist. His New York studio, The Factory, became a well-known gathering place that brought together distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Bohemian street people, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy patrons. He promoted a collection of personalities known as Warhol Superstars, and is credited with coining the widely used expression "15 minutes of fame."

By Daniel Maltzman
Located in Laguna Beach, CA
Born and raised in Beverly Hills, California, Daniel Maltzman has always been interested in pop culture and advertisement. His early career consisted of promoting the hottest clubs in Hollywood and running a successful business in the fashion industry. A switch to the art world was natural for Maltzman as his obsession with creativity and expression only grew with his exposure to the art scene that so profoundly impacted Los Angeles nightlife.
Much of Maltzman’s inspiration draws from his relationships with people who have fast-paced lifestyles, fame, and fortune. Maltzman is also fascinated by Los Angeles’ contemporary urban settings and street style aesthetics. Mixing acrylics with spray paints and juxtaposing graphic images amongst figurative depictions, Daniel Maltzman’s work is captivating and richly dynamic. Striking colors and bold mark-making show evidence of Mark Grotjahn’s influence on Maltzman’s work, and admiration for Andy Warhol’s muses are consistent with Maltzman’s subject of choice.

Lutz's 2007 ''Warhol Denied'' series gained him international attention calling into question the importance of originality or lack thereof in the work of Andy Warhol. The authentication/denial process of the [[Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board]] was used to create value by submitting recreations of Warhol works for judgment with the full intention for the works to be formally marked "DENIED". The final product of the conceptual project being "officially denied" "Warhol" works authored by Lutz.
Andy Warhol's Brillo Boxes were originally created in 1964 and are easily his most iconic sculptures, rivaling paintings like Liz Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Campbell's Soup Cans, Flowers and Electric Chairs. These highly prized sculptures continue to soar in value and were the subject of a recent HBO documentary, “Brillo Box (3¢ Off)”, which also included Charles Lutz.
Lutz, also known for the installation work Babel, exhibited at the 2013 Armory Fair in New York City which caused near riots as he invited the fair goers to take cardboard versions of the Brillo Box Sculptures.
"In the mid-1960s, Warhol carried his consumer-product imagery into the realm of sculpture. Calling to mind a factory assembly line, Warhol employed carpenters to construct numerous plywood boxes identical in size and shape to supermarket cartons. With assistance from Gerard Malanga and Billy Linich, he painted and silkscreened the boxes with different consumer product logos: Kellogg’s Corn Flakes...
