About the Item

The Plant is a beautiful woodcut realized by Axel Salto. The artwork is hand-signed in pencil on lower right. On lower left there are some handwritten note by the artist. Include passepartout: 35 x 50.8 cm. Good conditions except for some foxings and some stains on the margins. The print represents a luxuriant plant in a joyful explosion of colors. The artwork could have been a preparatory sketch for one of his beautiful vases or sculptures. Axel Salto (1889 - 1961). Salto was a Danish ceramic artist of international fame.His artworks include painting, graphic design and illustrations for books, jewelry and textiles. In 1951, Salto received the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale for his ceramic works. Salto died in 1961. Today his works can be found in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the CLAY Museum of Art in Denmark among others. Axel Salto was a Danish ceramic artist of international fame. His works also include painting, graphic design and illustrations for books and various objects including jewels. Salto was an important contributor to the art debate in Denmark. He made his debut as an artist in 1911, but his primary career as a ceramist took off at the 1925 Paris Exhibition. Today his works can be found in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the CLAY Museum of Art in Denmark among others. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
