About the Item

This original circa 1970 silkscreen poster, designed by Emory Douglas, the Minister of Culture of the Black Panther Party, is a striking example of revolutionary graphic art and militant political messaging. A defining visual voice of the Black Power movement, Douglas created some of the most iconic and incendiary imagery of the era, merging propaganda with pop-art sensibility and community empowerment. The poster features two armed Black men drawn in Douglas’s signature bold, graphic style, standing defiantly against a red background exploding with white rays — a composition that evokes revolutionary energy and urgency. One wears a button with the image of Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panther Party. The second wears one that reads: “Kill the Pigs.” At the top, a translated quote thunders in French: « S'ils condamnent Bobby Seale, nous retiendrons la nuit et l'Amérique ne connaîtra d'autres lumières que les flammes du brasier révolutionnaire » (If they convict Bobby Seale, we will withhold the night and America will know no other light than the flames of the revolutionary blaze) Below, the phrase “Death to the Fascist Pigs” is scrawled like a battle cry across the lower edge. This piece, likely produced and distributed by international solidarity networks in France or French-speaking countries, stands as an example of how the Panther movement transcended borders, resonating deeply with global anti-colonial, anti-racist, and working-class struggles. Printed as an original serigraph (screenprint) on thin poster stock, this work is both a collector’s gem and a visual document of 20th-century resistance — radical, raw, and fearless.
