About the Item
Original vintage travel poster for the Caves of Drach Mallorca Lake Martel Concerts / Cuevas Drach Mallorca Conciertos Lago Martel issued by the Fomento Turismo de Palma tourist office featuring stunning artwork by the Austrian painter Erwin Hubert (1883-1963) of three white rowing boats on a lake in a cave with stalagmites and stalactites reflected on the calm water framing the image, the bold blue lettering on the border above and below. The four connected Caves of Drach / Dragon Caves are located on the Mediterranean island of Majorca Balearic Islands Spain and the underground Martel Lake is named after the notable cave explorer and scientist known as the 'founding father of speleology' Edouard-Alfred Martel (1859-1938). A boat tour through the cave system includes a ten minute classical music concert on Lake Martel (since 1935). Erwin Hubert lived in Majorca from 1904 to 1963. Printed in Barcelona. Good condition, restored creasing, restored tears, backed on linen.
