Médecine Expérimentale (Experimental medicine), is an original etching, soft ground, on Japanese paper realized by Félicien Rops in 1854, signed in the plate.
In very good conditions.
Félicien Victor Joseph Rops ( 1833-1898) was a Belgian artist associated with Symbolism and the Parisian Fin-de Siecle. He was a painter, illustrator, caricaturist, also a prolific and innovative printmaker, particularly in intaglio.Eroticism mixed with mortality and evil themes is one of the most prominent aspects of her work.
He is best known for his graphic works, many of which are horror or erotic. Rupes was educated in Brussels. His first drawings were published in the humorous newspaper Crocodile (1855) and Euilenspiegel. He also created watercolors. The praise given to him by writers such as Charles Baudelaire and Yoris Karl Hussman's placed him at the forefront of the decadent school of the late 19th century. He has lived in France since 1878.
Felicien Rops was born in Namur in 1833 and attended the University of Brussels. The Belgian artist achieved great fame in a small amount of time as a caricaturist. Rops was influenced by the artistic movements of Symbolism and Decadentism. For this reason, his artworks usually combine sex, death and satanic images all together. He died in 1898.

Printed in an edition of 150, this impression is signed in pencil, lower left. The image size is 5 13/16 x 7 7/8" (14.8 x 20 cm) and sheet size 8 1/16 x 10 5/16" (20.3 x 26.2 cm). Frank Weston Benson (1862-1951), well known for his American impressionist paintings, also produced an incredible body of prints - etchings, drypoints, and a few lithographs. Born and raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Benson, a natural outdoorsman, grew up sailing, fishing, and hunting. From a young age, he was fascinated with drawing and birding – this keen interest continued throughout his life.
