A Londoner, he studied in Paris at the Académie Julian and at Goldsmiths College, where he was awarded a gold medal for posters. A member of The Art Workers' Guild from 1924, Taylor designed many posters for the railway and shipping companies, as well as for the Empire Marketing Board. A regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, he served during World War II as a naval caumofleur.
