About the Item

Original vintage poster for the graphic analogy - Der Mensch Als Industriepalast / Man As Industrial Palace - by the German physician, scientist and illustrator Fritz Kahn (1888-1968). Fantastic industrial design featuring a human torso with the normal functions of life portrayed as technological processes with miniature workers working various machines to perform the body's tasks, including photography through the eyes, sitting in a library for understanding and working conveyor belts, with a system of cogs, pumps and pipes for carrying blood and food around the body. Fritz Kahn was most noted for his info-graphic works and regarded the human body as "the most competent machine in the world" but his books were banned and publicly burned when the Nazis took power in Germany; in 1933 Kahn moved to Palestine, then to France; in 1941 he moved to America with the help of his friend Albert Einstein. Printed by Fricke and Co Stuttgart. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears on image, staining, backed on linen.
