Original vintage British Railways train travel poster for St Andrews featuring a colourful image by James McIntosh Patrick (1907-1998) depicting players on the historic St Andrews golf course in Scotland with people enjoying the beach by the sea and walking along the road leading to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (The R&A) clubhouse and the Grand Hotel with other town buildings in the distance, the railway logo and text on the margin below - St. Andrews Guide free from Town Clerk, St Andrews, Fife Train services and fares from British Railways stations, offices and agencies. The ancient town of St Andrews is known as The Home of Golf and is a popular seaside and golf destination located on the east coast of Scotland. Dating back to the early 15th century, the old golf course was established in 1552 and golf club formed in 1754 (originally as the Society of St Andrews Golfers); the Open Championship and other golfing events are held in St Andrews and the courses are open to the general public (run by the St Andrews Links Trust). Due to the growth in tourism, the Grand Hotel was opened in 1895; the building was used by the military during WWII then as university accommodation; restored and renamed Hamilton Grand the building is now luxury apartments.
