About the Item

'L'Agaric Couleuvre' A French copper-line engravings with original printed colouring of mushrooms by Jean Baptiste Francois Buillard (1742-1793). From Bulliard's 'Histoire des Champignons de la France', a series of engravings describing the mushrooms of France, published in Paris in 1791. This series of engravings are 'probably the first botanical work completely colour-printed without retouching by hand' (Great Flower Books, 1990, p83). Bulliard was a French physician and botanist. He contributed to the spreading and consolidation of botanical terminology and the Linne system. He was especially important in the area of mycology. 230mm by 170mm (platemark) 350mm by 250mm (sheet)
