About the Item

A 1853 Broadside advertising a large reward for the apprehension of accused murderer John Hide of Harrison County, Texas. Broadside poster printed in black ink on cream-colored wove paper, 6 x 12 7/8 inches (151 x 321 mm), the full sheet. Overall toning, scatetred foxing and dampstain. Corner losses, none of which effects the image area. The murder of Charles Butler by John Hide. The murder being of such a "cold-blooded and outrageous character," that a special reward for Hide's capture is here advertised by J.B. Hogan, Sheriff of Harris County, Huston, Texas, 1 February 1853.
