The artist describes this project:
Two years ago, I had the very good fortune to be invited to paint in the South of France. My studio was an abandoned stone barn - no doors, no electricity or water, only a dirt floor. Outside was a Jardin Sauvage - a nice garden gone to seed. In it were flowers intimately familiar to me from my childhood in California: pomegranate blossoms, passion vine, star jasmine, Russian sage, oleander, grasses and even a few familiar weeds. A large painting on canvas resulted.
Bud and I had been discussing a composition for a new lithograph and he was firm that this painting was it. By the end of my time at Shark’s, we had a really wonderful print - Wild Garden.

Robert Kushner
Kushner's work has been exhibited extensively in the United States, Europe, and Japan and has been included in the Whitney Biennial and the Biennale in Venice. He was the subject of solo exhibitions at both the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Brooklyn Museum. A mid-career retrospective of his work was organized by the Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art.
